Designing Reliable AI Agents for Production

Reliability comes from constraints, evaluation, and observability — not from a better prompt alone.

Conceptual agent evaluation gates and verification paths

Constrain the action space

Give agents narrow, well-typed tools with least-privilege access. Fewer, clearer options produce more predictable behaviour.

Evaluate continuously

Build evaluation sets from real cases and run them on every change to prompts, models, or tools. Track regressions like any other test suite.

Trace everything

Record inputs, tool calls, intermediate outputs, and approvals. Traces make failures diagnosable and give reviewers the evidence they need.
